Maly Drama Theater on Vasilyevsky. Satire Theater on Vasilyevsky. Poster for December

Letter to the administration: In connection with yesterday’s incident in your diocese, I appeal to you for fair satisfaction!
I think that the event that happened yesterday at the Theater on Vasilyevsky is, by and large, or, more precisely, in no way acceptable for understanding the ethics of theater in general. If indicated on the Internet. that the time to get from the Vasilyeostrovskaya metro station to the Theater on Vasilyevsky is 16 minutes, then this utter lie can become the reason for 1. complete discord in the mood of a potential viewer who has decided to visit the Theater on Vasilyevsky, 2. the loss of a very significant amount of money, and 3. to feel humiliated and spat upon by artists who should help support so that such incidents do not happen to the viewer. Let me briefly explain what we are talking about. Yesterday, I, who in one day purchased 2 tickets to the Vasilievsky Theater (chamber stage) for the play The Laughter of the Lobster, being the owner of 2 tickets, a certain cultural figure, was not allowed to attend the performance. Reason: 7 minutes late after calling. When I named the reasons, and tried to explain to this very strange, and now more than suspicious subject, that it was very important for me to go to the theater, to the performance, because being a journalist of international class (a member of the International Federation of Journalists), I had to write a review about the performance, because I am writing a monograph about theaters in St. Petersburg, this subject caused an aggressive attack on me and he stated that a professional has no right to be late for the Theater. On what grounds does the subject have the right to throw this kind of insults in my face was absolutely not clear to me, and I demanded an explanation. To which he responded by saying that he would not allow books to be waved in front of his nose, and he would do everything in his power to prevent my wife and I from attending the performance. I showed him the red book of membership of the International Federation of Journalists, solely for the purpose of convincing him how essential it is for me, and for the Theater on Vasilievsky itself, and if it came to this, then for the whole culture as a whole, this is a visit to the performance. Having received a complete rebuff, I went to the box office, demanding to get the tickets back, and to get my own money back in the amount of two thousand rubles. The cashier hesitated, but did not return the money. So a question for the Theater employees: Who will compensate 1. for my wasted nerves, return money for tickets that did not serve their intended purpose, and who will apologize to us for ruining the evening, and the whole day in general? If a subject who came from provincial Tula, as it turned out, claims to introduce his codes not only for the artists of the Liteiny Theater, for which he was expelled from the theater, as research from sources showed, but also to apply such radical measures to the audience, then the Theater on Vasilyevsky may very soon find itself broke, because in this way it may lose its last spectators. And such new aggressive methods applied to the viewer will in no way lead to good. As for the fact that the money for the ticket was not returned, this amounts to, at the very least, theft and it is in no way acceptable to condone this.

The Theater on Vasilievsky is one of the youngest theaters in St. Petersburg, although the origins of theatrical art in the Vasileostrovsky district of the city go back far into history. The Russian State Public Theater on Vasilyevsky Island was established in 1756. Its first director was the great Russian writer and playwright A.P. Sumarokov, who created a repertoire for the Russian stage in the mid-18th century. The current Theater on Vasilyevsky, being a successor of glorious cultural traditions, confidently declares itself as a modern, successfully developing creative team.

On September 1, 1989, a new theater was born in St. Petersburg. The St. Petersburg State Theater on Vasilyevsky is known today in Russia and abroad, but then, in 1989, its appearance was generally not even noticed. Young theater studios were born almost every day, and the birth of an experimental studio at the famous St. Petersburg beat quartet “Secret” was probably an event only for the organizers themselves.
In 1989, "The Secret" was at the peak of its popularity. Almost all of its participants were professional actors, graduates of LGITMiK, and were toying with the idea of creating a drama studio at “Secret”, where, naturally, the main actors were supposed to be “Secret” members Maxim Leonidov and Nikolai Fomenko. The managers of the quartet were also theater actors Pavel Konovalov and Vladimir Slovokhotov.
The experimental studio was organized in March 1989, but the Secretovites did not have time to play theater. The business they had begun was much more occupied by the restless Konovalov and Slovokhotov, who invited director Vladimir Glazkov to come up with some kind of performance together. Glazkov liked the old play by A. Kurbsky “It Was Raining.” The performance lasted 55 minutes - neither this nor that. It is impossible to screen such a performance in a normal professional manner. To get a full-length production, they found a play that was similar in meaning and had the same cast - another one-act vaudeville with a love triangle in the center: M. Berquier-Marinier's play "Dearly". The result was the play “Love for Three” (which continues to this day with success and has become something of a theater mascot). “The Adventures of Leopold the Cat” was staged especially for the school holidays. “The Secret” was going on tour to Gorky, and it was decided to show the performances of the experimental studio there.
The "Secret" tour in Gorky failed. The tour of the studio theater in the premises of the Gorky Youth Theater went off with a bang - completely sold out, a huge success. By that time, a split had emerged within the popular beat quartet. It became clear that “The Secret” was coming to an end, and with this information the studio theater went on vacation. And on September 1, 1989, the studio formally separated from Secret; After returning from vacation, Vladimir Slovokhotov registered an independent theater. This day became the official birthday of the young theater.
Theaters then grew like mushrooms; it was necessary to come up with some special name for the theater. Then, in 1989, satire was in incredible favor. Society was thirsty for satire, but among the newly formed theaters this was not the case. In essence, anything could be satire. This is how the name of the new theater arose - “Experimental Theater of Satire”.
They performed on the stages of the Vyborg Palace of Culture, the Variety Theater and in large factories in the city and region. In October 1989 we went on our first big tour - to Chelyabinsk. The tour was again a success. They brought a lot of money to St. Petersburg and, instead of happily dividing it all, they bought transport - an old truck and an UAZ. The homeless theater lived on wheels, and wheels were needed most of all.
In January 1990, they went on tour to Moscow, and in the spring, Slovokhotov, in a state of euphoria from success, decided that it was time to tour abroad. In Finland, St. Petersburg's neighbor, in the city of Lahti, the performances of the new theater were received with enthusiasm, and the commercial success of the tour made it possible to purchase another car and a bus. The theater's fleet was increasing. With the money earned, it was already possible to stage new performances. By that time, the troupe included interesting actors - Alexander Chaban, Tatyana Bashlakova, Dmitry Evstafiev. They staged the play “A Man Came to a Woman” by S. Zlotnikov and “The Black Angel” by Yu. Yakovlev. With an updated repertoire, we went on a big tour to Siberia - Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Barnaul.
Slovokhotov performed the functions of not only the director, but also the artistic director of the young theater. It was he who determined further artistic and repertoire policy, assembled the troupe, and launched performances. Over the course of a year, a stable team was formed, fully capable of financing itself, with a fairly extensive repertoire.
By the new year of 1991, it became clear that gradually the theatrical boom, which made it possible for the theater to live on the money it earned, was gradually beginning to fade away. This was not yet directly noticeable, but a trend had emerged, and it was obvious that in another year and a half, and for quite objective reasons, self-financing would come to an end. And then the rich artistic director, with a ready-made repertoire, his own transport, and a talented troupe, came to the Ministry of Culture of the Leningrad Region and offered to accept the Satire Theater “as a gift.” The gift was happily accepted, and since January 1991, the St. Petersburg Theater on Vasilievsky received the status of the State Regional Theater.
In the new status, playing only on the road and rehearsing wherever necessary, without having a hospital, was not only practically difficult, but almost indecent. At this very moment, the Uritsky tobacco factory decided to part with its House of Culture, which did not generate any income and required financial investments that the factory did not have at its disposal. So the building of the old theater of the widow of the actual state councilor Mrs. von Derviz became the home of the Satire Theater, which added a new address to its name, and has since become the State Theater on Vasilievsky.
Probably, many St. Petersburg residents remember the gray, unkempt facade of the House of Culture of the Uritsky Tobacco Factory on Sredny Prospekt - a room divided into a bunch of cells, a spit-stained hall with tattered cheap seats and a patched movie screen. When Slovokhotov was offered several half-deserted theater premises, this was among them, giving the impression of complete desolation. But there was a place: close to the metro, in one of the most respectable areas of the city, which, moreover, did not have its own cultural center. But Vasilyevsky Island is a traditionally intelligent area; it is densely populated by old St. Petersburg residents, in addition, the University and a number of university dormitories are located there (including the student dormitory of the theater institute).
A major reconstruction of the building has begun. Archives were brought up; decided to restore the pre-revolutionary appearance of Mrs. von Derviz's theater. Today, the Great Hall, Small Stage, ancient staircases, foyer and cafe almost completely reproduce the architectural style of the early twentieth century, into which the necessary elements of modernization organically fit. The appearance of the old building gave the Satire Theater another individual feature: the interior design is in green tones, quite rare for theater spaces. This is where the general color scheme for the entire design came from - posters, theatrical programs, and other printed materials.
In a short time, the Theater on Vasilyevsky became famous in the city. Two of his performances managed to become a theatrical sensation and received the Triumph and Golden Mask awards ("Song of the Volga" by Rezo Gabriadze) and the Golden Spotlight ("Tanya-Tanya" by Vladimir Tumanov based on the play by Olya Mukhina). Among the two performances competing for the State Prize of Russia in 1998 was Akhmat Bayramkulov’s play “Vassa Zheleznova”. The Satire Theater visited theater festivals in Avignon, Paris, Helsinki, Berlin and Palermo, and at the Contact festival in Poland, Antonina Shuranova received the prize for best actress in the play "Vassa Zheleznova".
A sufficient period of time has passed for the theater to take its place in the “cultural landscape” of the city. The theater is not just young and easy-going; there reigns in him a spirit of enthusiasm and romance that is almost never seen in our pragmatic times. This concept is not age-related, it is rather determined by the state of the soul.
The team is still headed by Vladimir Slovokhotov, who knows almost all theatrical professions from the inside. The theater has modern stage equipment with light and sound equipment, production workshops, and a car park. The repertoire includes Russian and foreign classics, modern drama of a wide variety of artistic styles. The theater stage hosts performances created by famous theater directors. This is where talented young directors are formed.
In 2007, Andrzej Buben, a graduate of the St. Petersburg Theater Academy, became the main director of the theater. In his homeland in Poland and in other European countries, he is known as a talented director whose performances have shone at prestigious international festivals. Andrzej Buben defines the modern artistic language of the Theater on Vasilievsky, the orientation towards intellectual, cutting-edge dramaturgy.
Vladimir Slovokhotov managed to create a theater whose actors, for the most part, are universal: singing, dancing, capable of combining several roles. There are many famous actors in the troupe: People's Artists of the Russian Federation N. Kutasova, P. Konopchuk, Yu. Itskov, T. Malyagina, Honored Artists of the Russian Federation T. Bashlakova, Yu. Dzherbinova, D. Evstafiev, N. Zhivoderova, E. Rakhlenko, S. Lysov, A. Levit, A. Tsypin, V. Shubin. There are many talented young people in the troupe.
From 2002 to 2007 Under the auspices of the theater, the international festival "Theater Island" was held on its basis, reflecting the diversity of stage genres and acting forms.
The performances of the Theater on Vasilievsky are widely available to spectators not only in St. Petersburg, but also in the Leningrad region, where the team constantly travels with performances and concert programs, and takes part in regional festivals and cultural projects.

Patronage work for the Theater on Vasilyevsky is among the priority areas of activity. For several years now, his actors have been patronizing the Children's Center for Aesthetic Development named after. A. Khochinsky (the Center has 22 branches). Tickets are on sale at discounted prices for low-income theatergoers.
Thus, by creating an artistic public theater, the best traditions of Russian performing arts are being continued on Vasilyevsky Island. The path of the Theater on Vasilievsky, according to leading critics in St. Petersburg, “goes through the modern artistic space.” In the results of the 2009-2010 season published by the St. Petersburg Theater Magazine. The theater's creative growth, excellent repertoire and first-class acting ensemble are noted. A sufficient period of time has passed for the theater to take its place in the cultural landscape of the city and country. The creative team is not only young and easy-going, but a spirit of enthusiasm and romance reigns in it. The path of the Theater on Vasilievsky, according to leading critics of St. Petersburg, “goes through the modern artistic space.” The theater has become a real island of hope, love for man, faith in his best spiritual aspirations.

The theater on Vasilyevsky is one of the youngest in St. Petersburg. His repertoire includes performances for both adults and children. The troupe is implementing the “Theater for School” project, within the framework of which subscriptions have been developed for students.

History of the theater

The city on Vasilyevsky is famous for its huge number of diverse troupes - one of them. It opened in 1989. Initially it was an experimental studio. The initiative to create it belongs to the administrator of the famous beat quartet “Secret” Vladimir Slovokhotov. Soon the studio changed its status and name. It turned into the Experimental Theater of Satire. His official date of birth is September 1, 1989.

The theater on Vasilyevsky needed its own building. The persistence of its creator helped the troupe in this matter. He got the city authorities to give his artists the mansion of the widow of State Councilor von Derviz - the former House of Culture of the Uritsky Tobacco Factory.

His repertoire includes domestic and foreign classical playwrights, fairy tales, dramas, comedies, and melodramas.

In theater productions, traditional forms coexist with original and experimental concepts.

From 2007 to 2011 The main director of the theater was the Pole Andrzej Buben. He gave the productions a European sound.

Chamber stage

The theater on Vasilievsky at the beginning of the 21st century opened another stage, which was called “Chamber”. It is located at Maly Prospekt, house No. 49.

It was here that they prepared their cabbage soup, which became legendary. On the same stage they rehearsed their independent works.

There were also exhibitions of artists' works, drama workshops, master classes and creative meetings.

Today there are performances for young spectators on the Chamber Stage. The Satire Theater on Vasilyevsky has developed subscriptions especially for children. For younger schoolchildren - “Journey to the land of fairy tales.” For high school students - “Classics on the modern stage.”

Since 2011, the Chamber Stage has served young theater workers as a platform for experimentation. Young, up-and-coming directors and actors get the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity here. Theatrical readings of plays by young playwrights are also held here.

The theater on Vasilyevsky was founded in 1989. When looking at this date, it immediately becomes clear that he is one of the youngest in St. Petersburg. But the creation of this theater was preceded by a rich history. Previously, the Russian Public Theater operated here under the direction of Sumarokov. He created a good repertoire, which later became the basis for the new theater. His team successfully continues the established traditions.

The initiative to create a new theater group, which grew into the theater on Vasilyevsky, belongs to Vladimir Slovokhotov. He held the position of chief administrator in the St. Petersburg quartet “Secret”. At first, the name of the theater contained the word “satire”. The creator explained this by saying that he wanted to obtain the status of a state theater for his brainchild. Therefore, the mention of satire could play into the hands, because there is a similar theater in Moscow, but not in St. Petersburg.

Slovokhotov secured a permanent building for his theater, which the team desperately needed. Before this, the troupe had to change several venues due to financial difficulties. Slovokhotov became the permanent artistic director and director of the theater. He managed to create an excellent team that received recognition from the public.

Now the troupe includes many talented actors who are well known to the audience. But the team is constantly replenished with new talents. Many of the artists not only play on stage, but also act in films.

Despite its short existence, the theater quickly gained considerable popularity in the city and country. He often tours, showing interesting productions. The repertoire includes both Russian and foreign works. Here you can watch both dramatic and comedy performances. There were also children's productions. Each season there are several premieres. The team successfully combines the traditional approach with experiments.

In 2010, the word “satire” was removed from the title. In the 2010-11 season, the theater received an important award - the Government Prize, which is equivalent to the state one. This is rare, because only two Russian theaters have won such an award. The theater also received an invitation to participate in European festivals.

In the 2011-12 season, many works by young directors were staged. In 2012-13, domestic classics were actively staged.

Where is
The theater is located on Vasilyevsky Island, far from the usual St. Petersburg routes. It is located on Sredny Avenue, in building No. 48. It is easy to get here from the Vasileostrovskaya metro station.

Good afternoon. Up to 3 years, without providing a separate seat - free

The Satire Theater on Vasilievsky Island is rightfully considered one of the young theaters in St. Petersburg, but if you look at the theatrical art on Vasilievsky Island, it has a rather rich and extensive history. In 1756, the Russian State Theater was established, which was called public. The founder and first director was playwright A.P. Sumarokov. The theater that exists today is the heir to great cultural traditions.

The creative team is not only modern, but also successfully developing. The Satire Theater began as a studio attached to the “Secret” beat quartet. The first performance of the group was the “eternal joke” “Love for Three” - for many years it has been extremely popular and has become the so-called mascot of the theater. The official date of birth of the theater itself is considered to be September 1, 1989, when Vladimir Slovokhotov registered it as a separate independent theater. Since then he has been its artistic director. It is thanks to Slovokhotov that the theater has a simply brilliant troupe that not only raises, but also strengthens the prestige of this theater group. Despite its youth and short history, the stage of this theater has seen many stars of theatrical art: Alexander Khochinsky, Valentina Kovel, Alexey Osminin, Vladimir Osobik, Antonina Shuranova. Yuliy Kim and Alexander Volodin also worked with the team. TO composer Veniamin Basner Music was written for all performances.

The Theater of Satire on Vasilyevsky really has been and will be relevant for many years to come, thanks to its staff and the never-fading enthusiasm of its artistic director, who can safely be called a genius of our time.
